Elijah Koblan-Huberson

Doctoral Student

Elijah is a first-year student in the doctoral program. His primary research interests consist of post-colonial and French Caribbean literary studies. Focusing on the philosophical themes of alienation, exile, and the Glissantienne concept of opacity, Elijah explores the ways in which contemporary writers from the French Caribbean diaspora, who have migrated away from the islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique, theorize and conceptualize their identities and “native” landscapes in an increasingly globalized world.

Prior to UVA, Elijah has had experience as an English lecturer at the Université de Bretagne Occidentale at Brest, France.

Education: BA at Bowdoin College with an Honors in Francophone Studies
