The Department of French, in collaboration with the Center for Global Health Equity, is pleased to announce an exciting opportunity for undergraduate students with a joint interest in French and Francophone Studies and Global Health and Development. Students interested in aspects of global health, women's rights, and/or gender-based violence are strongly encouraged to apply. A link with more information and detailed application instructions is below. The general purpose of the Hannah Graham Memorial Award is to honor the spirit and impact that Hannah, a former French major, would have had on the University and the world had she not been taken from us at such a young age. Her desire to leave the world a better place than she found it and to celebrate French language are qualities the award seeks to encourage by annually recognizing a student similarly focused and inspired. The award is especially relevant for students planning or working on projects in the greater francophone world, especially in Africa. A six- to eight-week field placement in country is an integral component of this award.
Candidates for the award must display:
· passion for French language;
· dedication to righting wrongs;
· commitment to sustainable change;
· zeal for tackling difficult problems and an appetite for discovery
Any University student with at least one year remaining at the University is eligible for this award.
The current 2024 Hannah Graham Memorial Award application is available now. Again, the deadline for applications is Feb. 23, 2024
Feel free to get in touch directly with Prof. Blatt should you have any questions or if you would like to talk about developing a project.
