After teaching English in France via the TAPIF program, Michael earned an MA in French Literature at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. After another year in France with TAPIF, he earned an MFA in Literary Translation from University of Iowa's Translation Workshop. Michael is now pursuing a PhD at the University of Virginia in order to pursue his passions : teaching language, cultivating de-centered perspectivism, and studying conceptions of ecological, communitarian identity.

Research interests: 

Identity in the post-humanist era, eco-poetics and -phenomenology, existentialism, secular and/or literary representations of mysticism, translation studies
