Please join us for the lecture (in French) and workshop (in English) by Christy Pichichero of George Mason University on Thursday, September 21. She is a specialist in eighteenth-century Caribbean and French studies as well as an anti-racist activist. See flyers attached.

 

  1. The first event is a lunchtime lecture on Guadeloupe entitled: « Nanon, femme aux flots: Géobiographie d’une vie diasporique entre esclavage et liberté » New Cabell 349 at 12:30pm, with lunch provided.

The second is a workshop open to all but especially to graduate students, post-docs, and early career faculty: “Changing the Frame: Imposter Syndrome and Discriminatry Gaslighting."  Have you ever felt or been told that you suffer from imposter syndrome? Join the club! Better yet, let's come together to explore these feelings, dispel myths about their root causes, and move forward in personal and communal power. Dr. Christy Pichichero--Associate Professor of History, French, and African and African-American Studies at George Mason University, and international thought leader in diversity, equity, inclusion, and social justice--will lead a discussion of how the systems of discrimination can create the feeling of imposter syndrome in your life, your studies, and your work. Join the conversation and explore how to empower yourself and others to challenge barriers and create an environment where everyone can thrive. Newcomb Ballroom at 4pm. Reception starting at 5:30pm.

Christy Pichichero is a public intellectual and Associate Professor of History and French at George Mason University. She earned her A.B. in Comparative Literature at Princeton University, her B.M. in Applied Music (Voice - Opera) from the Eastman School of Music, and her Ph.D. in French Studies from Stanford University. She is the Director of Faculty Diversity in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, the Past President of the Western Society for French History, and a thought leader in Critical Race Theory, anti-racism, diversity, equity, and inclusion.
