The Department of French was delighted to sponsor two students from this year's Choix Goncourt seminar to attend the 2024 award ceremony at the French Consulate/Villa Albertine in New York on April 21. Students in the seminar on grounds spent the semester reading the 4 books that made it onto the Prix Goncourt short list (the Prix Goncourt is France's most prestigious literary prize). Gretel and Talia participated in the prize jury and roundtable discussions with undergraduate and graduate students from other participating universities (Duke, Columbia, Princeton, Yale, Florida, Illinois, MIT, Harvard, and others). Many thanks to Gretel and Talia for having served with such poise and brio as ambassadors for the Department of French (and UVa) at this important international event.
