Welcome to Prof. Nicolas Lombart!

The Department of French is delighted to welcome Prof. Nicolas Lombart as Visiting Professer for the 2026-2027 academic year. Prof. Lombart, Maître de conférences at the Université d'Orléans, is one of France's most renowned scholars of premodern France. He has worked on Renaissance poetry, on the poetics of prison writing, on law and literature, on early French colonialism and exploration of the "new world," on Montaigne, Ronsard, and Jean de Meun (among many others), and, intriguingly, on Renaissance soundscapes. This year, Prof. Lombart will be teaching courses on early modern history, on the "Global French Renaissance," and a graduate seminar on Renaissance poetics. He also plans to teach a section of FREN 3031 in the spring. Please make sure to welcome him to grounds when you see him around in NCH this fall!
